kerfloopeywitch: (with Legolas)
a) Have you ever lost someone close to you?

She hadn't been prepared. Despite the years that she'd spent in the village of Haurvatat and people coming and going with regularity, Willow hadn't been prepared for her own departure. She knew that it was inevitable and the actual leaving of the village hadn't been the problem. It had been the first night sleeping apart.

The empty pillow without the impression of someone sleeping on it when she first woke up in her dorm room had been the hardest. Though her body being used to sleeping next to his night after night had been equally hard to adjust. The majority of Willow's twenty years had been on her own, waking up to a solitary bed had been a part of her life that she gave it little thought. Until now. Now, she was keenly aware that Legolas wasn't beside her. It had been a month and waking up alone with Buffy quietly sleeping in the other bed in their dorm never got easier.

Willow lay on her bed for a moment, closing her eyes and recapturing the times that she'd spent in his arms. She felt the bond between them though it was as tenuous as a spider web, it was also very comforting. It made her more determined than ever to find her way back to him. She'd promised Giles and Legolas that she wouldn't put herself or others in danger and she wouldn't go back on that. She hadn't promised not to exhaust any means necessary though.

Her fingers came up to lightly play with two things that she had with her always. The amulet that Hrothbert had given her to find him no matter where he was and the token from D'Hoffryn. They were two powerful men and between them, she should be able to figure out a way to get to Legolas.

"Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day." – AA Milne

Willow closed her eyes, willing the calmness into her chaotic thoughts. Instead of the peaceful haven that she was supposed to be picturing for her meditation, Willow saw Tara' s blood stained shirt, the look of surprise seconds before her knees crumpled and her world fell apart. Her eyes popped open with a gasp, the flowers around her withering as if the life were sucked out of them.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." She had no idea if she were speaking to the coven or to Tara's ghost. Perhaps both. Willow felt tears welling up behind her eyes. "I can't do this. I'm sorry. Maybe it would be better if you stripped me of the magic."

"No." Beatrice, the head of the coven, shook her head smiling kindly. "It would be easier for you but not better. You need to learn control of the dark powers. You wouldn't learn anything if we'd just stripped them. You have a gift. Rupert told us of the spell you cast as a child restoring the soul of a vampire. When one is given such a gift, even if one abused it, it would be wrong of us to deprive the world of that power. All we can do is guide you in how to use it as it should be used rather than having it use you." She walked over to Willow, laying a hand gently on the crown of her head. "You will do so much good with this power. She would be proud of you."

The tears flowed freely now as she thought of Tara. She would have hated what Willow had become. A monster. A killer. The pain was too raw to regret the decision that she'd made with Warren. She liked the eye for an eye for killing Tara. Maybe someday that would change. Today wasn't that day though. Willow did regret turning on her friends, hurting Giles and almost killing Buffy.

She felt a cool breeze on her cheeks drying her tears. If Willow were fanciful, she would have thought it was Tara giving her strength to try again. With a sigh, Willow nodded. "Okay. Let's try this again."

Bird Nest by Virginia Leone

She was young, little more than five or six years old but her curiosity about the world around her was strong. Willow had passed the why stage of why is the sky blue, why is the grass green, her questions were more thought out but they were still there. Her need to find answers would always remain a constant in her life as her parents encouraged her to find out things on her own. It would be when she was older that she would realize it had more to do with not wanting to be bothered than it was to give her independence.

Curious green eyes took in everything around her but they zeroed in on a bird's nest that could be spotted from her bedroom window. Every day, Willow would watch the momma bird as she sat keeping the eggs warm. Days turned into weeks and she watched with breathless anticipation the arrival of new life. Finally, it happened and Willow watched with not a little jealousy the tender way the mother took care of them bringing home worms and other delicacies. When it was time to leave the nest, Willow was there watching life as it happened outside of her bedroom window.
