“Throw your heart over the fence and the rest will follow.” - Norman Vincent Peale
Willow was content to be in her cocoon of pain and heartbreak. She didn't want to risk anything, it hurt too much. Buffy was right, they were cursed. She couldn't be with Angel, Riley had left, Willow wouldn't even go into the dysfunction that was Spike and Buffy as hard evidence of how the Hellmouth screwed up love lives. Oz and Tara's death were evidence enough of that.
It was better to keep yourself separated out and not get emotionally attached to anyone. It was safer all around really. The problem was, Kennedy wasn't content to let Willow stay in her cocoon. She flirted, kissed and had even not freaked when she'd turned into Warren. She had calmly led an assault on Willow's defenses until she hesitantly opened up.
No one could replace Tara and Willow didn't want Kennedy to do that. What they had was different and not less stronger. Slowly Willow emerged, allowed herself to feel again and to believe that maybe, just maybe she was worth loving. Kennedy helped Willow to live again and for that she would always love her if nothing else.
