"Giles, it's the network." Willow tried to keep the laughter from her voice, she really did. She could see his scowl in the reflection of the monitor. Her hand lightly came up to squeeze his shoulder as she turned off her cell. "See, the computer isn't possessed by a demon."
Giles muttered something under his breath that Willow thought was Moloch.
"Okay sure, make one mistake with a demon that was going to take over the world by the Internet and no one ever forgets it. That was a fluke. It gave a whole new meaning to garbage in, garbage out though." She grinned at him, but quickly dropped the smile when Giles took his glasses off. "Right. Sorry. Computer joke not appropriate."
"I'm sorry, Willow I know it's not your fault. It's just maddening that I might have lost an hour's work in the database." Giles began to rub at the space between his eyes where the tension headache was forming.
She knew better than to remind him to always hit save so you don't lose your data, so Willow just nodded sympathetically. "It's okay, Giles. Why don't you get a cup of tea? The tech said it would be a while anyway until they can get it back up and running." It was a little white lie, but what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him.
"Yes, right. I think I will. Want me to brew you a cup?" Giles pushed back his chair and stood.
"Nope, but thanks. I think I'm going to practice my control." Another white lie, but he'd forgive her for that.
"Have I mentioned how proud I am of you? You've come a long way since you first saw the coven." Giles smiled at her and gently squeezed Willow's shoulder.
She couldn't stop the proud blush on her cheeks if she'd wanted to, which she didn't. "Thanks. I couldn't have done it without you." Willow was still surprised he hadn't bound her magic. That was what she'd been expecting when he'd taken her to the Coven outside London when they arrived.
Giles's expression filled with warmth before he left to brew his tea.
Willow watched him leave with a brief feeling of sadness for everything that she'd put him through. Well, there was one thing that she could do to help and that's re-input all of his data.
